Giveaway: Fair Game by Patricia Briggs

I was sent this fabulous hardback copy of Fair Game, but know what? I won’t have time to read it and thought maybe one of you would like to take it off my hands. Wink. I’m also changing up my rules a little, so if you’re Canadian, you might want to scroll down and have a look-see. Here’s the blurb, via Goodreads:

Patricia Briggs, the #1 “New York Times” bestselling author of the Mercy Thompson novels, “always enchants her readers.” (Lynn Viehl, “New York Times” bestselling author) Now her Alpha and Omega series-set in a world of shifting shapes, loyalty, and passion- brings werewolves out of the darkness and into a society where fear and prejudice could make the hunters prey…

They say opposites attract. And in the case of werewolves Anna Latham and Charles Cornick, they mate. The son-and enforcer-of the leader of the North American werewolves, Charles is a dominant alpha. While Anna, an omega, has the rare ability to calm others of her kind.

Now that the werewolves have revealed themselves to humans, they can’t afford any bad publicity. Infractions that could have been overlooked in the past must now be punished, and the strain of doing his father’s dirty work is taking a toll on Charles.

Nevertheless, Charles and Anna are sent to Boston, when the FBI requests the pack’s help on a local serial killer case. They quickly realize that not only the last two victims were werewolves-all of them were. Someone is targeting their kind. And now Anna and Charles have put themselves right in the killer’s sights…

This is book three in Briggs’ Alpha and Omega series. I haven’t read the series at all yet, so I’ve no idea if it’s best to read them in order or not. It releases March 6, 2012.

  1. Yes PLEASE! Man, do I ever love this series. Mostly because we get an even closer look at Bran. Ms. Briggs could do a whole ‘nother series on just him. I’d read it :)

  2. OK, I rarely enter contests these days, but I will for this book. I like this series because we get to see a familiar world from a different direction. I love that we get backstory about the Pack that we may not have reading the Mercy Thompson books. And I love that these are slightly different because the romance is a larger part of the story.

  3. I love reading about the inner workings of the pack, and how an Omega influences it. I also find the dynamics of a good man having to be a killer fascinating. A great series.

  4. Oh, OH!!! This series/author is on my auto buy list. Ms. Briggs world is addictive and I’m happily knee deep! I won’t go on and on about how I love this series and Mercy Thompson, but know that if I was stuck on a desert island, I’d take this series with me and be happy ;)

  5. I love Patricia Briggs!! Her characters always seem so real (you know, for werewolves).

  6. Patricia Briggs is one of my favorite authors. I really like how Anna calms Charles. They are an interesting couple that I can’t help but love.

  7. I absolutely love this series. Charles is one of my favorite characters. Yes, he scares me, but I also see his other side when he is with Anna. I’m looking forward to reading this book. Thanks for the giveaway.

  8. Oooh! It’s Briggs’ writing, that’s why I read this series. I like the characters of Charles and Anna and I like the extension of the Mercy Thompson world.

  9. Oh, please! I have already read the previous books in this series and have been looking forward to this one with great anticipation. Ms. Briggs writes believable paranormal romances. Her characters are living “normal” lives with their shapeshifting abilities seamlessly integrated into the action. Fans of her Mercy Thompson series (also great) will like this one as well.

  10. I love this series because Anna is not your typical UF heroine. Because of her role as Omega (and her past), she’s much more reticent and cautious than we’re used to. I love her. And Charles.

  11. Love Patricia Briggs ever since picking up her Mercy Thompson series. Her take on werewolves and pack dynamics is quite interesting and I look forward to reading more about Charles. Getting more back story on his relationship with Bran would be icing on the cake really.

  12. I think the series was about 4 books in by the time I was talked into reading it. I’m so glad I did. I think Briggs’ writing is wonderful and her characters are people I’d like to know in person…even if they could chew me to pieces. lol

    Please count me in! :)

  13. I am one of those people who loves whatever Briggs releases. What is so great about the Alpha and Omega series is Charles and Anna.
A great cast and great storyline.

  14. OH I cannot wait for Fair Game. What I love about were is they emotions and their plain kick arsery. With Patricia Briggs you get these great action packed reads with some furry love in between.

  15. I love this series! One of the main reasons I’m a fan of Patricia Briggs’s world is because she creates female characters who kick butt but are still feminine.

  16. I’ve only read one book in this series.i really like the writing style and the world building.I’m looking forward to catching up and reading them all.

  17. As others have said, Patricia Briggs is one of my favourite authors. I enjoy her character development. All her characters are flaws, just as we do in reality. These flaws become part of who they are and why they do what they do. They’re not super-powerful people who can do no wrong. Her world-building skills are excellent, melding urban and fantasy beautifully.

If you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend beginning with the short story in “On the Prowl”. You’ll have a much better understanding of Anna and the dynamics between Anna, Charles and other wolves, if you read this first. The order of the two novels is less important, though they would likely benefit from being chronological.

  18. I love Patricia Briggs, I’ve read the mercy thompson series and the first book in the Alpha and Omega series…and really enjoy it!

  19. I love urban fantasy because I love the unique worlds that authors come up with, the fantastic supernatural characters, and all the action that is involved in these great stories. I’m looking forward to reading the Alpha & Omega series, even though I haven’t had a chance to start it yet.

  20. I love all of Patricia Briggs books, and it took me awhile to start this series but when I did I LOVED it. There is something about Anna and Charles that makes me crave a happy ending for both of them. She’s had such a rough past and he is so serious and brooding. They both deserve happiness. Sigh. I can’t wait to read Fair Game.

  21. I love this series because Briggs is a master of character development. Anna and Charles have progressed so much in only two novels that I’m eager to see how far they’ve come by the end of Fair Game.

  22. Ok, I am entering this contest because of my love for Mercy Thompson. I love her passion and her intelligence. She is not perfect but there is a logic to her actions. She tempers her love with her logic — a girl after my own heart. SO, the Alpha and Omega novels have been in my TBR pile for entirely too long, and I keep meaning to read them BUT other books keep getting in the way … Anywho, I think if I were to win a copy of a book in this series, it might light a fire under my reading rear end!

  23. You should give this series a read! Just make sure you read the short in the ON THE PROWL anthology first, because otherwise you’ll probably end up confused WTF is going on in the beginning of the first book like I was.

  24. I haven’t read the Macy Thompson books by Patricia Briggs, and I chose to start this series because it had a shorter backlog than the former. Although it takes place in the same universe as Macy Thompson, I don’t feel like I have to read that series to follow the “background” story. I like following Charles and Anna’s story because there is more focus on their romance and relationship.

  25. Hello! First time around here – there are some nifty recommendations that I’ll have to check out – AWESOME!

As with everyone else commenting, I have to highly recommend the series to you – any of Patty Briggs’ urban fantasies are really great – entertaining, amusing, insightful, and well-crafted. I would recommend reading them in order (starting with On the Prowl), as they do build off one another – it’s nice to read the Mercy Thompson series, as well (starting with Moon Called). Timeline-wise, I’d say Moon Called first, then the Alpha and Omega series, excusing Fair Game, then the rest of the Mercy Thompson series up through River Marked, then to Fair Game. Sorry, that was a little long-winded. Sheesh!

The overall genre of urban fantasy is delightful in the aspect that while it provides the daily dose of escapism and out-of-this-world fun, it puts it in terms that we, as readers, can often relate to (you may love high fantasy, but come on, how many of us have to worry about our budgets or missing work? It’s kind of nice that the characters in urban fantasy have the same issues). It’s also nice because some of the themes and topics can be stated more clearly with references to our world and its issues. From Buffy to Briggs it’s all good :-)

Bottom line: You should read the books, but if you’re not up for Fair Game – I am :-)

  26. So I confess I have started avoiding anyone new in Urban Fantasy. I got burnt out awhile ago. But I will read anything by Patricia Briggs – I have liked her since way back when, when she wrote “Masques” and “Steal the Dragon.” Her Huron books are my favorites, but the Mercy Thompson series and the tine-ins set in that world are a close second.

  27. Mercy Thompson and all the other characters that inhabit her world, including Charles and Anna, are endlessly fascinating. Briggs’s worldbuilding is so organic that it is easy to believe that Spokane is filled with supernatural creatures. I need to check out her earlier series.

  28. I’d love to be entered. I enjoy this series because of Patricia Briggs’ writing and the fact that this one is a but more romantic than the Mercy Thompson series which I also enjoy. I also really like Anna because she has been through a lot yet she is very strong.

  29. I always assumed Mercy would be first in my heart in terms of Patricia Briggs’ characters…until there was Anna. I relate to her vacillation between confidence and trepidation…a place many of us live. I also enjoy the yin and yang relationship of the Charles and Anna relationship. They are both quiet thoughtful people, but all the more fierce in their love of family and each other. I heart them so!
