I’m a little late in seeing this one, but I noticed the title a few months ago on Amazon and lo and behold, they updated its cover this past weekend.
My first thought? It’s Kate Daniels, but in high fantasy style. That’s just the cover impression, though. And I really like this cover. But it’s either that, or it’s a whole new edition to the Narnia books. Anyway, yes, I DO like this cover. Let’s see what it’s all about. The author’s site says:
Deacon Sorcha Faris has plenty of supernatural problems and also her fair share of real life ones. A terrible riot caused by a geist attack has left her partner and husband badly injured and she is assigned a new partner that she doesn’t want. Merrick Chambers is young, talented and tormented by what he saw Sorcha do to his family years before. A good start to any partnership. As Active and Sensitive they are supposed to work seamlessly as a team. Sorcha wonders what their Abbot was thinking.
In the north, the Young Pretender to the throne that Sorcha’s Emperor now sits on, is struggling to find a safe harbor to make repairs to his ship. When Raed Rossin is offered the isolated village of Ulrich, he is grateful. However he cannot know that his ancient familial curse and the rising threat of the unliving will combine to make this the most dangerous place for him to go.
Unliving….dost the copy refer to zombies? I have to say, it doesn’t sound like a very original tale. In fact, the capitalized terms Active and Sensitive make me cringe a little, as these kinds of things are a little too familiar in terms of paranormal romances. Not that there’s anything wrong with PNR – I think things like that are a little overused is all.
But I’m curious about this one. Maybe the author puts a whole new spin on the familiar sounding elements. This book one in a new series releases October 26, 2010.

Hey, that does look like a high fantasy version of the Kate Daniels books! It even has a lion in it. The premise looks interesting but I will wait for reviews before I buy it.
LOL, that does look like Kate, all she needs is the sword to complete my image of her. It’s a lovely cover… I don’t know about the book though. :)
Only time will tell I guess, huh ladies? ;) I think I will give it a look! Unless it’s in hardback. Oh PLEASE don’t be in hardback!
It is a lovely cover, but I so see what you mean about it being a Kate Daniels book :)
And…I’m kind of intrigued.
Oh and I see you’re reading Cold Magic! Can’t wait to hear what you think of it!
Orannia, Cold Magic is very, very good. Going on my Top Faves of 2010 list for sure!
And now I want to read it even more! I keep haunting my library catalogue but it’s not there. It’s in the other catalogues though, and when we amalgamate…it’s mind *evil grin*
I find it fascinating what people infer from a cover and a blurb.
I can answer a couple of questions. It is in massmarket size, it’s more about ghosts than zombies, and no, that isn’t Aslan- but if I told you then it might spoil the story. :)
I certainly hope the partnership angle you find in Geist is an orginial one.
If any of that intrigues you then check out my website for a sample, and also free audio short stories starting in a couple of days.
Thanks for talking about Geist, hope it isn’t too weird the author replying!
