Cover Spotlight: The Iron Duke

I dunno – has anyone seen this yet? I was perusing a Fall 2010 catalog for Penguin and found this lovely gem, which I’ve been anticipating. Steampunk romance for the win! Releases October 2010. Author’s site here.

ETA: according to the author the chesty manlove guy is a placeholder – they will be replacing him for the final cover. But still – Noms for the book!

After the Iron Duke freed England from Horde control, he instantly became a national hero. Now Rhys Trahaearn has built a merchant empire on the power — and fear — of his name. And when a dead body is dropped from an airship onto his doorstep, bringing Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth into his dangerous world, he intends to make her his next possession.

Mina can’t afford his interest, however. Horde blood runs through her veins, and despite the nanotech enhancing her body, she barely scratches out a living in London society. Becoming Rhys’s lover would destroy both her career and her family, yet the investigation prevents her from avoiding him…and the Iron Duke’s ruthless pursuit makes him difficult to resist.

But when Mina uncovers the victim’s identity, she stumbles upon a conspiracy that threatens the lives of everyone in England. To save them, Mina and Rhys must race across zombie-infested wastelands and treacherous oceans — and Mina discovers the danger is not only to her countrymen as she finds herself tempted to give up everything to the Iron Duke.

Not a fan of the cover at all.

BUT – the book looks really good :)

I thought it looked pretty fitting. The blurb is what sold me anyway. ;)

I love this cover like crazy, but I should mention that it’s not the final version yet — they are tweaking the porthole guy…because the Iron Duke should fill EVERY hole he’s in.

…thank you, thank you. I’m here all night.

LOL! Meljean, people will probably be glad to hear that. *snerk* Honestly I thought people would like to at least see it for the anticipation of the story. The shirtless guys are a dime a dozen, so I tend to look past them.

Plus, I wonder why they didn’t say that the cover wasn’t final in the catalog.

I’ve read all of three steampunk books and totally thought “this genre is not for me.” But if anyone can make me want to read steampunk, it’s Meljean. For the nummy romance factor, not the cool steampunkiness of it all.

    I do like the cover.

From what I understood from the author, they’re just planning to change the male model, but really, who knows. Might change more than that. Will be excited to see. :)
