I like this cover. A lot. Not sure why exactly unless it’s the color. Love me some red. The guy’s pose happens to be one of my favorites, all ready to slice and dice with that back-hilted sword. For some reason the sword hilt on the back thing really does it for me. I’m a big fan of gritty, grimy texture, so the background is working for me too. Huh, guess I knew why after all.
And since the tail end of this week will feature two Jim Butcher reviews, why not extend a hand to his wife. I’ve got this book coming in the mail so I’ll let yall know what’s what with it as soon as possible. It releases May 5, 2009.
The blurb via the author’s site:
There are worse ways to die…
They are the Sentinels. Three races descended from ancient guardians of mankind, each possessing unique abilities in their battle to protect humanity against their eternal foes–the Synestryn. Now, one warrior must fight his own desire if he is to discover the power that lies within his one true love…
For too long, Helen Day has been haunted by visions of her own death, surrounded by flames as a dark-haired man watches her burn. So when she sees the man of her nightmares staring at her across a diner, she attempts to flee–and ends up in the man’s arms. There, she awakens a force more powerful and enticing than she could ever imagine.
The instant the Theronai warrior Drake touches Helen, the anguish he has borne for years fades away. He is determined to know why this beautiful, fearful woman has such power over him. The answer lies in his very blood–and in Helen’s as well. For together, they may become more than lovers–they may become a weapon of light that could tip the balance of the war–and save Drake’s people…

Very strong cover. I too love the fact that he’s ready to slice and dice whatever evil comes his way.
I don’t read her – is this the first in a series?
Yep, this is the first in her first evah paranormal romance series. The person that’s sending it to me said that they enjoyed it. She’s written romantic suspense up to this point and I hear those are pretty decent.
Yep, it was pretty good. I’ll put it in the mail tomorrow, along with Cassie Ryan’s book :P
Wha? You send me extra goodies? Whoa. Just looked up Cassie Ryan. Those are some steamy covers! :D Thank you!
Ooh – this sounds good, enjoyed reading the excerpt too. And a yummy cover. Interesting that Nalini Singh has done a cover quote . . .
Good eyes, Willa! I didn’t notice that, but I was, ur, kinda imagining licking the guy’s back too. *whistles*
I spotted it licking my way up! Lol!
Heh, great minds lick alike! Doh, think alike, yeah that’s what I meant.
Oops. I meant Carrie Ryan. Sorry to get you excited :( Man, I need to get glasses. I could’ve swore her name was Cassie, but then, I read it wrong…
…great minds lick alike
LOL!
*gets sidetracked by the cover*
Definitely a drool worthy cover :) And the premise sounds interesting too!
Oh yeah, btw, the copy of Butcher’s book doesn’t have that cover, so it’s a bummer. It’s an awesome cover too.
Oooo! You’re killing me here. First no sexy-covered books by Cassie Ryan and now no Sexy Back/Burning Alive cover either? Where’s the justice?!
JK. :D I smacked me forehead. Of course I should’ve realized you meant Carrie Ryan. Freakin’ duh on me lol!
It’s ok :) We all are having brain farts
Sounds right up my alley!
Look how the light shows off his tattoo and sweaty back.
Yall, I did wonder why he’s got trees growing on his arms and shoulders though. Anyone else see trees? Yes, no? Something else? Cracks? Like dry, desert ground cracks? Ouch.
Those better match any tats or marks the dude has.
It’s a tree, for sure. But I won’t tell you why, because it’s more than just a tattoo. Unless you really want to know. It’s not a huge significant plot detail, like if I told you it’d ruin the whole book, but it is a plot detail all the same.
Whoa, I had seen this cover and noted the author’s name but didn’t know she’s Jim Butcher’s wife! That’s pretty cool.
Yes! Apparently he taught her to write la fiction. Isn’t that awesome? Must be so much fun for them.
The cover is totally yum! And it looks to be an interesting premise as well. Will Have to keep an eye out for your review.
I’m so glad she’s finally doing a Paranormal. Yay! Can’t wait to read this one!
Oh yes, I had blogged this cover a while ago, I love it too. I think it’s the colors.
I love this cover. I’ve been looking forward to this book for a while now. I can’t wait to read your review when you’re done with it. :)
Hmm yeah, I saw this author was switching to paranormals. Jim does it great, so maybe he his wife some advice. But frankly, unless reviews are outstanding I don’t intend to read this book. I was less than impressed by her romantic suspenses and the blurb for Burning Alive makes me feel like it’s more of the same old, same old. Way too similar to Dawnkeepers, or the Paladins, or others I have since forgotten. Not what I’m looking for from my paranormals at this point.
The cover IS nice though :).
Ohhh – nightdweller, the tattoos are trees? For some reason I thought roots…. I really like them. They’re different…and they’re on his skin, which is definitely strokeable.
orannia <—- needs to go and have a cold drink and turn the fan on :)
Yep, one big tree.
